Ponyamon Response To Text Future Planet

 Mars –

Our New Home?

Think carefully about each question, and use evidence from the texts to support your conclusions. Write your answers in full sentences, and use explanations and examples where needed.

Surface Level: Find the Answer in the Text

  1. What are some similarities between Earth and Mars?

The Similarities between Earth and Mars are nearly the same. It’s just that Mars is much colder at the point of -65 degrees. Did you know that Mars has ice and when the ice melts it turns into a source of water supplies. So that means there could be life on Mars. Something also similar is that on the surface of Mars there are sand dunes which can also be found on Earth.

  1. Humans would find it challenging to live on Mars without what?

Something that can be challenging for humanity is that the freezing point on Mars is much colder than how earth would normally be. So humans would most likely need a Warm clothing and food source because you would starve there on Mars.

  1. What are the 3 things that the article says are making our planet Earth unlivable?

Pollution, Climate change and over uses of natural resources is impacting the earth and as each year passes by pollution will start impacting a lot of lives. Climate Change will change the patterns of earth and overuse is going to damage the earth.

Inference: Use Clues from the Text to Think of an Answer

  1. Explain in your own words why scientists are exploring the possibility of a move to Mars?

Scientists are exploring Mars to find out if humanity will be able to live there because earth is slowly starting to die because of overuse, pollution and climate change.

  1. What are some challenges that humans would face if there was a move to Mars?

Some Challenge human would face is oxygen the reason is that the oxygen in mars is believed to have so much carbon dioxide that the carbon dioxide blocks the reaction of oxygen.

  1. Why do you think plants will be so important to the terraforming of Mars?

There’s are reason why we need plants and trees on Mars because as you know we can barely breathe in Mars but if we put trees on Mars then the tree can absorb the Carbon Dioxide then when the trees do that it can produce oxygen for us to breathe.

Unfamiliar Words: Clarifying Language that may cause Misunderstanding

Word Sentence from the text Definition
Enthusiast A planet called Mars, located 342 million kilometres away from Earth, has captured the imagination of scientists and space enthusiasts alike.  As an example, enthusiast is when someone is interested or can be thrilled to learn new things and discover.
Potential Mars holds the potential for us to explore and perhaps even call it our new home someday. Potential is when something could most likely be when there could be a chance to happen into the future.
Abundant While Earth is beautiful and abundant, we must face the reality that our actions are harming our planet. Pollution, climate change, and the overuse of natural resources are making Earth less livable. For  example in the solar system if we look at earth it is abundant because there’s barely any other earth.
Generate We would need to find ways to grow food, create sustainable habitats, and generate the resources necessary for survival. Generate when it is produced or when something has been created.

Global Inferencing: Making Connections between the Text and the Wider World

Would you want to be one of the first people living on Mars?

Come up with solid reasons for your choice, and provide evidence, and examples to support your reasons.

If I had a request to go to Mars then I would most likely  accept the request to discover the future home. I want to discover Mars because I want to see what surrounding it and the possibility of living on it. Being the first to discover will be great so I can also give information of how it feels on Mars. I also want people to know what it feels like on Mars. There could be a reason why we might have to go to Mars and that reason is that pollution spreads around and that can cause earth to rapidly die and fade away. So thats why it’s a good reason. But if all of us work together to rebuild and stop the pollution then I think I would like to stay on earth. One scary part of pollution is that we all might have to move to Mars and there could be a malfunction on the rocket causing people to pass away.

Ponyamon Climate Change

Today what we are most likely focusing on is Climate change.

Climate change is mainly caused by humans. Here’s the reason for how humans are affecting the earth. What can climate change impact?

Climate Change has been going on for too long and humanity can’t stop the climate but can slow it down, but we need to know how and what is affecting the earth. Greenhouse gases are also the reason for climate change. Greenhouse gases affect the earth quality by heating the earth up. Greenhouse traps heat lower in the earth atmosphere making it hotter. Did you know that back in 12000 years ago the earth temperature was 60 degrees! It’s so hot that it won’t take long for us to dehydrate and die because of the heat impact.Climate changes impact humans, animals and plants by heat. Most countries and land had more hot days and heat waves. The effect of that is dehydration animals are most likely dying because of dehydration and heat. Crops/plants are starting to fall down because of less water and too much heat. Humans are dying by burning fossil fuel because doing that creates air pollution and it has a small chemical that makes humans sadly pass away. Greenhouse gases are a cause to Climate change. The reason is that greenhouse gases traps heat lower in the atmosphere making years that pass by getting rapidly hotter. Human activities are the main causes of Climate change because ever since the Industrial Revolution humans has been making forest into farm.

Response to Text Pollution

Understanding Pollution: Protecting Our Environment for a Better Future

Answer each question to the best of your ability, using full sentences and make sure to include detail in your responses. Ensure you are using the text to locate important information that will help you provide accurate, and informative answers.

Level One: Retrieval (Locate the information in the article)

  1. Find a sentence from the article that explains what pollution is.

Pollution refers to the introduction of harmful substances or waste materials into the environment, causing damage to air, water, or land.

  1. What are the 5 different types of pollution that are talked about in the article?

Air  Water  Land  Light  Sound

  1. What are the three R’s  humans can do to reduce pollution? Provide 2 examples of how humans can do these..

R… R… R…
Reduce Reuse  Recycle
Making a smaller or less in amount, degree, size. A container from home or school can be reuse. Recycle is reusing a piece of Material to create an object.

Level Two: Vocabulary (Understanding unfamiliar words)

Word Definition What sentence did you find it in? Use it in your own sentence
deterioration When something useful becomes a waste and also less useful. It can also lead to the deterioration of ecosystems and contribute to climate change. The milk bottle deteriorated after it was fully used.
emissions Emissions are something that can come out of an exhaust

pipe and when they flow out they make air pollution.

Common sources include car emissions, factories, and burning fossil fuels. Air pollution can cause respiratory problems and damage the ozone layer. Emissions are very dangerous for humans because if humans breathe in bacteria it can seriously kill a person because it has little material that can destroy a human lung.
contaminants Can be a type of substance as an example there are 4 type of contaminants which is chemical, microbial, physical and allergenic.  Water pollution happens when contaminants such as chemicals, sewage, or plastics enter our rivers, lakes, and oceans. Contaminants can make water pollution as little substance can infect the water.
Pollution Pollution is almost like a virus but different types of pollution as an example like air pollution that can make it hard for us to breath. Pollution can come from various sources. Pollution is dangerous for human quality as it can infect and kill us. There is a lot of pollution like water pollution, air pollution, light pollution, land pollution and sound pollution.
environment Environment is a place where humans live. There are different types of environment. As Year 6 students, we have a responsibility to protect our environment and ensure a sustainable future for all My favourite type of environment is a countryside it’s because it quite.

Level Three: Inference (Use information and clues from the article to form conclusions)

  1. Explain why humans are primarily responsible for pollution?

The reason for that is because humans have been creating plastic which after plastic has been used most people would litter it that then starts to go in the water then those little substances spread into the water.

  1. What are some impacts that water pollution could have on marine animals?

Plastic is dangerous for seals, turtles and sharks because when these marine animals start to get hungry it will try to find food and when it sees a type of plastic it could swallow it making it hard for the marine animal to breath then suddenly suffocate by the plastic.

  1. Why is light pollution harmful to wildlife?

Light  Pollution can harm animals because it disrupts the wild life pattern causing it to be dangerous for the animal.

Level Four: Beyond the Text (Using what we know, and what we have learned to express an idea or an opinion)

  1. How do you think pollution affects the quality of life for people living in heavily polluted areas? Explain, and give examples of how they are affected.

The quality of life will start to fade away because of air pollution. Air Pollution  can kill us humans and animals because humans sometimes burn this plastic and sometimes there’s little ink in it. When we burn  these little substances will create smoke and in that smoke we sometimes breathe in and that’s what kills us.
